By selecting architects with no prior UK healthcare experience, nor pre-conceptions, the client has introduced a new vein of thought to their medical campus. A pioneering holistic approach has created a low-carbon building in which the careful use of materials, light and scale generate a calm and caring atmosphere for the care of premature and sick babies.
The understated nature of the architecture disguises real innovation, such as the use of exposed cross-laminated timber, bringing a tactile quality to a usually sterile environment.
