Built on the site of a couple of radio masts and a brick maintenance shed, this is one of four commissions for arts projects in East Lancashire. This delightful installation which, viewed from the town of Burnley, appears and disappears in the frequent moorland mists, results from significant community and cross-agency involvement and support. The Singing Ringing Tree is a very simple idea designed in suitably raw materials and construction methods for its windblown hill-top site. The tree is made of stacked pipes of different lengths. As the wind passes through, a variety of chords is struck. The installation joins a long tradition of waypoints in the landscape and does so with power and grace.
