The Scottish Storytelling Centre

Scotland is part of a Celtic story-telling tradition and this building celebrates the myths, ballads, sagas and travelers’ tales that make up that tradition. The storytelling court forms the heart of the building and connects with the city through its big front window. The internal spaces of the two buildings connect ingeniously so that they function as a pair, using the topography of the street to solve issues of access and external identity. The main spaces - the ground floor gallery and the lower ground lecture/performance space - are beautifully executed, with impeccable and original attention to detail, good quality materials and a control over space, light and views that sets the building apart from many small public buildings of its type.
