This scheme comprises 36 new-build housing units of mixed tenure on a prominent and difficult sloping site. It is organised into five distinct blocks, four of which run parallel to the contours, the other being stepped up the hillside in a serrated block form. The bulk of the parking is accommodated in an undercroft car park which forms the structural platform for the first housing terrace, the remainder being provided in open spaces on the deck itself. A community centre is included at the focal point of the scheme. The architectural vocabulary acknowledges the local vernacular – white rendered walls, pitched slate roofs – but in a crisp, modern idiom which includes generous expanses of glazing and cedar panels.
