The primary purpose of the stadium is to support the FA, other sporting fixtures and provide a venue for major entertainment events. The audience capacity is 90,000; therefore the functionality of the arena is of critical importance. To sustain an enterprise of this scale, major investment has been made by corporate sponsorship, therefore the hospitality venues and facilities for these investors are also a significant part of the building.
The stadium is approached along an axial approach which showcases the arched structure supporting the roof. The arch works immensely well both in terms of its immediate and long distance scale as an icon – it is an enormously successful London landmark.
At a functional level the building appears to work with exemplary efficiency. It is an outstanding, practical achievement.
