This project was conceived by the Client as a competition to complete the spire for the cathedral, which had been without one for over 100 years. The competition was limited to Architects under the age of 40 - a brave and enlightened decision.

The Spire, reaching 72 metres above ground level, acts as a distinctive landmark across the city and clearly marks the location of the Cathedral. The brushed stainless steel transforms its appearance subject to the prevailing weather and sky conditions.

The integration of the spire within the heart of the building has been carefully considered and detailed such that the spire appears to almost float or hover in its location with almost no structural support.
