This new education building reflects the school's decision not to relocate to central London but to commit to staying in its historic home and create accommodation appropriate for the UK's leading film and television school in the 21st century. The project represents the first phase of a series of of improvements on the campus. It sets high standards for the remaining work.
The organization of the building around a three-storey atrium will allow necessary change over time while maintaining the sense of single identity for the school. The directness and clarity of the concept are matched by the straightforward handling of materials. The internal concrete surfaces are relieved by the theatrical use of colour and this is echoed externally where the scarlet louvres give drama to a clearly ordered main facade.
