The school is a gem which acts as a community focus within an unprosperous part of the town. The old school was destroyed by arson – the part that remains forms one of the elements round the central courtyard. The new build has pitched roof forms, united by a generous passage right around the courtyard.

The exterior is carefully detailed and not skimped in terms of quality: it bears witness to the historic and continuing commitment of the client and the architects to achieving excellence in education buildings. The project has the feel of caring, unhurried architecture.

The new landscape work is generous and adds to the quality of the school; security is managed unobtrusively.
