The design follows the normal patter of two storey boathouses but breaks new ground in its scale, volumetric composition and use of materials.

The copper roof floats above the base which is clad in stack-bonded engineering bricks, varnished to give an anti-vandal finish. Crisp glass and timber-clad volumes project to complete a tough and elegant building which sits imposingly beside the towpath.
