In many ways all the client needed was a shed and a compound – which is what they have. Fortunately architectural and environmental concerns have been uppermost in the minds of the client and architect, resulting in a ‘Zen Chapel’ for Aston Martin’s design team and product – and all in just 12 months. An early decision on prefabrication, together with positive attitudes to sustainability, have led to a calming and creative place in which to work. Augmenting the sustainable credentials of the building is a closed loop vertical ground system for heating and cooling, natural hemp insulation and sedum roof.
The project is a subtle and elegant patchwork quilt of buildings and spaces in which both wooden and glass forms are equally appealing and unaffected.
