This project is the result of close cooperation with client and nursing staff to produce a contemporary day lit environment designed to improve the wellbeing and state of mind of residents, far removed from the historic ward facilities they replace.
Two, single-storey, pavilions set within garden grounds and catering for individuals with varying levels of neurodegenerative illness, incorporate eighteen bedrooms and twenty-four bedrooms respectively, all en-suite. All this has been achieved at a domestic scale, with circulation spaces that enable both quiet contemplation and internal and external exercise. In both buildings the rooms are ranged round garden courtyards with water features and both take advantage of the views to open countryside. Despite significant security requirements, the unit creates comfortable, calming accommodation within light and welcoming environments.
