The closing date for nominations for the 2009 International Fellowships, which reward the particular contributions non-UK architects have made to architecture, has now passed. The lifetime honour, conferred annually, allows recipients to use the initials Int FRIBA after their name. This honour replaces RIBA Honorary Fellowships for non-UK architects whose outstanding work the RIBA wishes to mark. The 2009 International Fellows will be announced in October 2008.
The 2009 Honours Committee will comprise of RIBA President Sunand Prasad, Sir Jeremy Dixon of Dixon Jones, Peter Davey OBE, Jane Wernick Hon FRIBA, Despina Katsikakis of DEGW design consultancy, Prof Kenneth Frampton of Columbia University and Pankaj Patel of Patel Taylor.
The 2008 RIBA International Fellowships |were announced on October 9. They will be presented during a ceremony at the RIBA's head offices in February 2008.
On the announcement of the 2008 fellowships RIBA President Sunand Prasad said: “The RIBA is an international organisation with over 3,000 members outside the UK. So it is appropriate that the institute recognises the importance of the work done by architects the world over. We therefore welcome to the RIBA family seven architects -from India, Finland, the United States, Brazil and Japan - whose work represents not only the spirit of their countries but also transcends it to become truly international in its reference and influence.”
