In its second year the RIBA CABE Public Space Award celebrates publicly accessible external space. It may be green or grey, urban or rural, privately or publicly owned, designed or re-designed and re-furbished for public use.
The 2009 jury comprised of Sarah Gaventa Director of CABE Space, Neil Porter, Gustafson Porter and Tony Chapman, Head of Awards at the RIBA. The award includes a prize of £5,000 to be presented to the winning practice at the Stirling Prize Dinner on Saturday 17 October.

CABE is the government’s advisor on architecture, urban design and public space. As a public body, it encourages policymakers to create places that work for people. CABE helps local planners apply national design policy and offers expert advice to developers and architects. It shows public sector clients how to commission buildings that meet the needs of their users, and it seeks to inspire the public to demand more from their buildings and spaces.
