The 2009 Royal Gold Medallist Alvaro Siza's lecture to a sell-out audience in the RIBA’s Jarvis Hall on the evening of Wednesday 25 February.

The RIBA’s Head of Awards Tony Chapman spent more than two hours in conversation with Alvaro Siza to produce this short film about his buildings.

RIBA President Sunand Prasad reads the poem "Frozen Music" by Poet Laureate Andrew Motion, commissioned to celebrate the RIBA's 175th Anniversary.

Alvaro Siza was only the 4th Medallist to be presented with the Royal Gold Medal by Her Majesty the Queen: a ceremony which cannot not be filmed.

The formal citation for the Royal Gold Medallist was written by the RIBA President Sunand Prasad on behalf of the Honours Committee which he chairs.

The Medallist traditionally presents an original drawing to the RIBA to be housed in its drawings collections at the V&A Museum.

The winners of the previous year’s Silver, Bronze and Dissertation awards in the President’s Medals traditionally present their work for criticism by the Royal Gold Medallist.
