Designing a Future for The World’s Forests: Specifying Timber Products Responsibly
Type: Seminar
The WWF-UK 95+ Group is a partnership between WWF-UK and companies across the UK. Members are committed to purchasing ever-increasing volumes of their wood and wood-product requirements from well-managed forests, and so contribute to improved forest management around the world. WWF is the facilitator and gatekeeper of the group.
The mission of WWF is to stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature, by conserving the world's biological diversity, ensuring that the use of renewable resources is sustainable, and promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.
WWF works to conserve endangered species, protect endangered spaces and address global threats to nature by seeking long-term solutions for the benefit of people and nature. The seminar offers an understanding of the construction industry's role in the timber trade, the importance of forests and the threats they face and the role of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) in counteracting that threat. By attending the seminar, the architect will be fully equipped to implement responsible timber specification.
