Health and safety


Health and safety: 2 hours per year minimum

Health and safety matters are integral to every part of the design process. There are various elements to the healthand safety requirements that you might consider:

  • pertinent construction safety legislation and building regulations for which the architect is responsible
  • workplace health and safety including safety on construction sites
  • CDM and other local legislative requirements
  • risk assessment
  • post-occupancy health and safety
  • attaining the CSCS qualification in the UK.


Please note that two hours is a minimum. It is expected there are many circumstances in which you ought to aim to achieve much more than two hours in this area.
Some examples would be:

  • anyone with planning safety responsibility
  • when any changes to relevant legislation comes into force – eg, changes to the CDM regulations
  • anyone trying to obtain the CSCS professional visitor’s card.
