The Royal Institute of British Architects is the UK based professional body for architecture, with an international membership and renown. Its extensive promotion and advocacy of architecture, to the public and government, are based on a passionate belief that good design and planning in the built environment improves people's daily lives, the effectiveness of businesses and organisations, and the reputation of places. The RIBA provides support for its 40,500 members through advice, technical and business services, and the setting of standards for the education of architects, both in the UK and internationally. Its large knowledge and information resources are backed by one of the greatest libraries and collections anywhere. With an annual income of over £35 million, the RIBA delivers its professional, cultural and commercial activities through a group of companies and a staff of over 400 in London, Newcastle and 12 regional offices. It now seeks an outstanding individual as Chief Executive to succeed Richard Hastilow, who will retire shortly.
The Role:

Together with the elected President, and working closely with the Council, Boards and the membership, to lead the RIBA in a rapidly changing world.

Managing the Institute across all activities, ensuring a strong and effective performance culture.

Representing the mission of the RIBA to government, the wider construction industry, media and general public.
The Candidate:

Excellent communication skills, integrity and a passion for the ethos and mission of the RIBA.

Politically adroit, skilled in strategic leadership and change management, with an enabling approach to people management

Demonstrable experience of operating successfully at board level in an organisation of comparable complexity, with strong financial control.
