Interim Regional Director, RIBA Yorkshire

Location: Leeds
Salary: Up to £38,000 full time equivalent
Hours: Part-time, 28 hours per week
Closing date: 04 April 2012

Be part of the vision: be part of the RIBA

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) champions better buildings, communities and the environment through architecture and its members. With over 40,000 members worldwide the RIBA has led the profession since its foundation in 1834, and continues to lead as architects face the challenges of the 21st century.

As the RIBA continues to prioritise local engagement, we are keen to recruit an experienced Interim Regional Director while the Regional Director RIBA Yorkshire is on maternity leave. This post will champion architecture and the profession of architects using creativity, vision and leadership. This is a highly adaptive role that embraces all areas of RIBA work and has considerable impact on the reputation of the RIBA among members, the public, the media, opinion formers and decision makers.

The successful candidate will need to be self-motivated, self-managed and able to take independent decisions using judgement and knowledge of the architecture profession and RIBA policy and corporate objectives. The post holder will manage a small close-knit team, based in our office in Leeds. The post holder will also work closely with the Regional Councils in Yorkshire, along with other regionally based architecture communities to co-ordinate membership strategic direction and maximise influence.

Working as part of a fluid and flexible matrix management structure, the post holder will work alongside the other English regional directors and the Director for the Royal Society for Architects in Wales to deliver an integrated programme of activities.

Excellent leadership, influencing and decision-making skills are key requirements, as well as adroitness to deliver performance objectives. Previous experience of working in a similar role is essential and an excellent understanding of membership organisations would be very helpful.
