MArch Energy and Environmental Studies

Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow School of Art

The contemporary international trend I find most exciting is sustainable architecture. For years I have been following its development and related changes in the world. Interest towards the topic has been growing in Hungary. I believe that I can acquire the knowledge necessary to practice sustainable architecture at Postgraduate Master Course in Energy and Environmental Studies at the Mackintosh School of Architecture.

In my opinion all architects should be aware of how complex a task it is to design buildings in a responsible way, taking into account real demands and the needs of future generations. From among the numerous solutions offered by green, eco- and energy-conscious architecture the Hungarian projects that qualify as sustainable employ only one or two, moreover, there are very few buildings where the complex approach that typifies energy-conscious architecture has been utilized. This is my main motivation in hoping to study a goal-oriented way of building design, forming the relationship of a building and its environment, of man and the building using the tools and methods offered by climate-conscious design. I find it a challenge to investigate what a sustainable building suitable for the climate and the cultural traditions in Hungary would be like. The way I see it, this type of architecture gives room to novel ways of creating form. I consider it realistic to design climate-conscious active and passive houses in Hungary; I am especially fascinated by the latter. I would also like to learn more about the non-traditional use of traditional and recycled building materials.
