RIBA Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship. Click to enlarge
Established in 2006, the scholarship funds international research on topics and at locations of the student’s choosing. The research is then presented as either a graphic, photographic or written report.
Applicants will be chosen on the basis of proposals submitted for an area of research from amongst the following themes: learning from the past to inform the future; the future of society; the density of settlements; sustainability; the use of resources; the quality of urban life and transport.
Each school of architecture can nominate one student only. In order to be eligible, students must have successfully completed at least the first year of the Part 1 degree.

2009:
Amanda Rivera (Universidad del Bio Bio, Chile) - 'Ancestral Cities, Ancestral Sustainability' (project proposal)
Amanda began her travel on 16 August 2009 in Santiago, Chile. During the next two months she will visit Chipaya in Bolivia, Puerto Miguel in Peru, Bandiagara in Mali, Urgup in Turkey, Yazd in Iran, Gyangtze in China, and Melak in Indonesia. You can follow her journey at http://www.amandarivera.cl|.

Faizan Jawed Siddiqi (Rizvi College of Architecture, Mumbai, India) - 'Role of Public Transport in Shaping Sustainable Humane Habitats: Case Studies Across Three Continents' (project proposal)
The film titled 'Just Wheels' which Faizan shot while traveling around the world as the 2008 RIBA Norman Foster Traveling Scholar and which he directed with Mr Ashok Mundkur (with the help of Drishtikon Mediaworks - www.dmw.in) has been nominated for the CMS Vatavaran 2009 Film Festival under the Climate Change and Sustainable Technologies category. A total of 73 films have been nominated from the 276 works that entered the Indian films category. The awards will be declared on 30 October 2009 in New Delhi.
