In 2009 the Modern Architecture and Town Planning Trust merged the Historical Research Trust to create the RIBA Research Trust.
The Modern Architecture and Town Planning Trust supported the study of contemporary and recent architecture. This included the decoration and furnishing of buildings, and the arrangement and landscaping of land adjacent to buildings in any part of the world.
The Modern Architecture and Town Planning Trust provided awards for closely defined pieces of architectural research and was not available to pay course fees and subsistence costs to students whilst enrolled on PhD/MPhil programmes.
The Research Grants Sub-committee awarded, under the Modern Architecture and Town Planning Trust 2007:
Dr Felipe Hernandez £5,000.00 for a research project entitled, 'Beyond Modernist Masters'.
Prof Neil Jackson £3,895.00 for researching modernity and tradition in post-war Japanese architecture.
Richard Brook £5,000.00 for a selective examination of the modern and modernist architecture of Greater Manchester.
