The Part 3 stage of architectural education in the UK is concerned with assessing applied knowledge and skill in relation to professional conduct and competence to practice as an architect.
The RIBA has its own Part 3 qualification - the Advanced Diploma in Professional Practice in Architecture, details of which are below - and also validates around 30 other Part 3 qualifications offered by various universities and examination centres across the UK. RIBA Part 3: Advanced Diploma in Professional Practice in Architecture
This course was established in 1990 by the north west schools of architecture and RIBA North West which is responsible for its administration and organisation.
The course and the related Examination in Professional Practice is validated and prescribed by the RIBA and the ARB respectively. Those who have ARB Part 1 and Part 2 recognition who are successful in the examination are eligible for registration under the Architects Registration Act 1997 and for Chartered Membership of the RIBA. The Diploma may be awarded with Distinction.

London-based Induction
An induction for all Part 3 candidates registered on the 2012 course took place on Tuesday 10 January and proved very popular with over 70 candidates attending. Keep an eye out for follow up meetings in London and Manchester.
Part 3 Office-based Examination
The first office-based examination of 2012 will take place on the 14, 15 and 16 March 2012. Interviews will follow on the 20 April 2012 at Chester Racecourse. A letter will be sent out to all candidates from the previous 3 years who are yet to pass the examination.
Chester Residential
The first of the 4-day lecture series' will take place on 24 - 27 March 2012 at the University of Chester.
The second will follow on 7 - 10 July 2012.
