Professional examiners are appointed by Schools of Architecture or the governing body of a Part 3 course provider. The primary role of the professional examiner is to assess individual candidates and report to the university or governing body that standards are appropriate and procedures followed.
Examiners are responsible for undertaking an evaluation of the Part 3 candidate's documentary submissions and also for assessing their competence for the practice of architecture via a professional oral interview.
The RIBA holds a register of Part 3 professional examiners, all of whom must be registered architects.

Professional Examiners Training Day 2007
The Part 3 Professional Examiners Training Day & Forum is an annual event organised by the RIBA with the support of organisations such as the Association of Professional Studies Advisors in Architecture|
For those attending it is an opportunity to discuss issues relating to Part 3, participate in training and provide feedback to the RIBA.
The 2007 training day, held at the University of Cardiff with support from CEBE, was attended by just under 60 examiners and professional studies advisors and included presentations, group discussions and workshops.
