Planning Group

The Planning Group provides an expert knowledge resource to support the RIBA's policies, actions and guidance on planning issues.
 
Key activities and functions
  • advise on the formulation, development and implementation of RIBA policy and strategy on planning
  • advance planning knowledge and skills in the architectural profession
  • identify emerging planning issues and highlight them to the RIBA
  • develop and promote good practice and design quality in the planning process
  • influence the government's views on improving the planning process, with particular reference to the importance of good design
  • promote collaboration between different planning bodies including professional institutes and government agencies

Killian/Pretty Review of planning applications
The RIBA recently responded to the Killian-Pretty Review of planning applications, calling for simpler rules for small-scale development and encouraging the role of local design review panels. See the attached PDF of the RIBA response in Links and Resources below.
