The Loan Library is a collection of around 4,500 books available for loan to members of the RIBA and are held in the Reading Room of the British Architectural Library, 66 Portland Place. All visitors can use these books for reference purposes. When searching the Library's online catalogue, item records will indicate if a copy is available in the Loan Library. New material is added regularly to this collection which provides material most relevant to practicing architects and students of architecture. Amongst the subjects covered by the Loan Library are:
guides to the architecture of major cities
the work of 20th century architects
CV writing, interview techniques and presentation skills.
Membership of the Loan Library
Membership of the Loan Library is free to RIBA chartered, associate and affiliate members as part of their membership package, and those registered for the RIBA office-based examination. Student members, RIBA honorary fellows and librarians of chartered practices are eligible to join for a modest annual fee.

Loan period and online renewals
The loan period is normally one month and users can login via the online catalogue to check the status of their account and to renew books online. Books can be sent by post in the United Kingdom or overseas (postage fees are payable by borrower).
The RIBA welcomes institutions wishing to borrow items from its collections for external exhibitions and events.
