The RIBA British Architectural Library aims to collect the major architectural journals of the world, whether these are commercial, official or academic publications or the journals of fellow institutions. There are no language or geographic restrictions. Serials may include the electronic version of the title. For journals published within the UK, we aim to reflect the full range published, from weeklies to the most irregular.
Subjects covered include:
-
all aspects of architecture
-
building construction, technology and law
-
environmental planning
-
landscape architecture
-
interior design and decoration (selective)
A representative sample of journals devoted to planning theory are collected. The journals of major architectural schools or academic institutions are included. For serials published outside the UK, we subscribe to representative examples from as many countries of the world as is feasible.
Over 2000 titles are held, over 700 from current journals. We are able to supply photocopies of articles from the majority of titles held, subject to current copyright legislation and conservation requirements.
The Library has been indexing articles since the early 1900s. Many of these records are searchable on the online catalogue. A project to retrospectively convert older records for online access is underway. New records from both current journals and older material are added daily to the database.
