A loan library of around 4,500 books is available for loan to members| of the RIBA. New material is added regularly and currently includes books on:
  • Architectural practice
  • Design guides
  • The work of 20th century architects
  • Building technology
  • Conservation
  • Guides to the architecture of major cities

Membership of the loan library

Membership of the loan library is free to RIBA chartered members, RIBA graduate and affiliate members and those registered for the Office Based Examination. Student members and Honorary Fellows are eligible to join the library for a modest annual fee.

Material may be borrowed personally and will be sent by post to those living or working outside the London area (postage fees are payable by the borrower). For more information or application forms for membership of the library please contact us| .

Loan period

The loan period for books is normally one month.

Book suggestions

We welcome suggestions for additions/improvements to the library. If the book you want is not held in the collection, please let us know, as we may decide to purchase it. Please send suggestions to info@inst.riba.org| marked 'Loan library'.

Inter-library loans

Material from the loan library (but not from the reference collection) can be made available to other libraries. For information email info@inst.riba.org| marked 'Inter-library Loan'.
