The ‘rue des boutiques’ on the Pont Alexandre III was a powerful symbol of Paris as the international capital of luxury shopping and consumption. The Parisian boutique had itself become an icon of modernity and increasing attention was being paid to its design in the 1920s. Although Maurice Dufrêne was responsible for the general layout, the individual shop façades were designed by different architects and designers.
