The architect and designer William Burges was a council member of the Royal Architectural Museum. Bedford Lemere & Co. produced this portrait in their role as official photographer to the museum. Burges was influenced by the art and architecture of many periods and countries. His own eclectic style was described by contemporaries as ‘Burgesian Gothic’.
