Tapper was for many years Bodley's chief assistant and efficient office manager. He set up his own practice in 1901 and had a distinguished career, receiving a knighthood in 1935 to mark his work as Surveyor of Westminster Abbey. Built on a confined site, the Annunciation has an impressively tall, vaulted interior. In style it looks back to urban churches by Bodley and George Gilbert Scott, Jr.
