The Great Hall, Hewell Grange, Worcestershire
Thomas Garner
1892
Ink, pencil and watercolour, by H.W. Brewer
Exhibited at the Royal Academy, 1892
Viscount Windsor

Hewell Grange is Bodley and Garner's only large country house. Designed by Garner, the interiors fuse English and Italian Renaissance detail to poetic effect. This reflects the influence of the patron, Viscount Windsor (later the Earl of Plymouth), who was a patron of Burne-Jones and a collector of early Italian pictures. The house, which survives in good condition, is now an open prison.
