Bus and tram shelters

Designs for concrete bus stop shelters

Pen and coloured crayon
Architect: Charles Holden (1875-1960) for Adams Holden & Pearson

As well as station architecture, Holden also developed a series of prototypes for bus and tram stop shelters. This design incorporates the seating with a simple canopy, route map and panels to hold details of bus or tram routes and fares. An elaborate signpost depicting the Underground roundel symbol together with the LPTB (London Passenger Transport Board) coat of arms is shown, symbolising the collaboration of tube, bus and tram services under the operation of London Transport. Rejected for being too complicated, Holden's designs were never used
