From 1900-20, the Underground Group acquired a number of rail, omnibus and tramway companies which served London and its growing suburbs. With the Underground's continued expansion, it was decided that the company must have a new headquarters and Holden was commissioned to design it. This dramatic perspective of the new building is by the artist Muirhead Bone, who had known Holden well for more than twenty years. The decorative details and sculptures shown are quite different to the final designs.
