The interior of 55 Broadway was luxuriously and beautifully finished. As seen in this early sketch, the ground floor concourse was ornate and featured classical detailing. The walls and floors were clad in Travertine (polished limestone) and all the doors, shutters and windows in bronze. Featuring the latest in cutting-edge technology, the heating used a panel system, the hot water was circulated in piping coils and a marble drinking fountain was provided on every floor supplied from the building’s own artesian well.
