Online Workshops

About the workshops

About the workshops

The six workshops have primarily been devised for use by Higher Education students of architecture and history of art. When used each workshop is devised to last between one and two hours, and can be combined with an induction to the collections or further activities such as a visit to the Architecture Gallery| at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. They are also ideal to use outside for field trips, especially those to London| and Rome|.

Viewing and locating material

These growing collections containing over four million items are housed at two different sites: The Victoria & Albert Museum and the Royal Institute of British Architects.

We have tried to give specific location references for all workshop material used. These are included in the PDF lists provided on the workshop pages. Occasionally items will not be available to be viewed, owing to conservation reasons or exhibition loans.

All the RIBA items featured are also available to view digitally on RIBApix| website, the RIBA Library's online digital image database.

Victoria & Albert Museum:

The majority of the workshop material selected is located at the V&A site. There, the extensive RIBA Library Drawings & Archives collections| are stored alongside the rich repository of the V&A|

Both these collections can be viewed by the public at the V&A in adjoining study rooms|; the V&A's Prints & Drawings Study Room and RIBA Architecture Study Room.

Royal Institute of British Architects:

Some items are from the RIBA Library Photographs collection which can be viewed by prior appointment. These are located at the RIBA Library at the headquarters of the RIBA at 66 Portland Place, London|.

Find out more about education programmes and facilities available at the RIBA Library or contact us at library.education@inst.riba.org|.

Group bookings

Group visits to view material, from schools, educational institutions and other organisations to the V&A site are welcome, but they must be booked three weeks in advance.
