The curatorial team and conservator at the RIBA Library have examined, catalogued, conserved and mounted 61 objects in preparation for their loan to CISA Palladio and the Royal Academy of Arts for the 'Andrea Palladio: His Life and Legacy' exhibition, which was on display at the CISA Palladio in Vicenza during 2008, and opens at the Royal Academy of Arts in London on 31 January 2009. The exhibition will go on tour to Barcelona and Madrid later in 2009.

This section uncovers Palladio's drawing process and offers an insight into his field notes, design drawings and plate designs.

It puts Palladio under the microscope and examines in detail the condition of the paper, inks, chalks and graphite he used, and explains the conservation techniques needed to treat them.

Discover the organisation and cataloguing that goes on behind the scenes and find out what happens when historic documents are put out on loan.

See how Palladio used sketches, plans, elevations and detailed drawings to develop his knowledge of architecture and create some of the finest buildings in Italy.
