Born in Vicenza, Vincenzo Scamozzi was profoundly influenced by Palladio’s work. Amongst his villas the Villa Rocca Pisani in Lonigo| and the Villa Bardellini in Monfumo| were clearly inspired by the Villa Rotonda|. During his career he was commissioned to complete various buildings designed by Palladio as well as other prestigious projects such as the Libreria Sansoviniana| in Venice.

His most important building, the Procuratie Nuove| in Piazza San Marco, adopts the language of the adjoining Libreria and also mirrors, in its long arcaded structure, the earlier Procuratie Vecchie| on the opposite side of the square. However, in comparison with the latter, Scamozzi’s building is imposing and monumental, characteristics which had been introduced into Venetian architecture by Palladio.

Scamozzi was also the author of an architectural treatise, 'L’idea dell’architettura universale' (1615) which included many of his finished and unfinished projects and indirectly contributed to the diffusion of Palladio’s ideas.
