Saudi Arabia Sustainable Construction and Education

Seminar Mission to Riyadh, Jeddah and Al-Khobar
21 – 25 January 2011 

Why visit Saudi Arabia on this sustainable education and construction mission?
Saudi Arabia is a country the size of Western Europe with a fast-growing population of 25 million people. Faced with growing pressure on its education services, it is giving education top priority, and of the 2010 budget of USD 144 billion, USD 34 billion is going to the education, training and manpower sectors. This will go towards reforming the current education system, building 1200 new schools and continuing with the construction of another 3000 educational facilities. This is in addition to the huge university building programme and the construction of the Knowledge Economic City near Jeddah.

In Riyadh we will visit the Ministry of Education, the Education Dept of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority, and hold a seminar at the Riyadh Chamber. In Jeddah we will call on major construction companies and the Knowledge Economic City offices, while in al-Khobar we will visit King Fahad University and hold a seminar at the Chamber. There will be business-focused receptions in all three centres.

This mission aims to give UK companies the opportunity to showcase their expertise in sustainable construction and the provision of consultancy, specialist fit-out and educational resources to develop new educational facilities, and to visit some of the key providers who could become potential business partners.

Overseas Market Introduction Service
UK Trade & Investment offers a service to provide targeted research to companies under the Overseas Market Introduction Service (OMIS). This could include useful business contacts in defined sectors, and assistance in setting up meetings with contacts. Why Choose This Seminar Mission?
Saudi Arabia is a difficult market to go it alone, with the visa process alone a challenge for many companies. You will receive targeted support and guidance through the preparation process from British Expertise, who are regular visitors to Saudi. This mission will provide a group introduction to some of the key organisations in the sector, with transport and logistical support provided. The seminars will provide excellent opportunities for UK companies to showcase expertise to local companies. A mission brochure will be produced featuring all companies accepted by UKTI on to the mission, which will be widely distributed at the seminars and other mission events. UKTI reserves the right to restrict participation in the mission in the interests of getting a reasonably sized and balanced delegation.

Creative Sector Trade Mission to China (Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing)

Last week, the Prime Minister, David Cameron, led the biggest ever UK Government delegation to China. This trip highlights the importance for UK firms to seek to explore opportunities for expanding their business in China, the world’s second largest economy and the UK’s ninth largest export market.

With UK exports to China rising by 44% in the first eight months of this year, British firms say that the world’s second biggest economy has provided their firms with great growth opportunities. In many cases, sales to China now make a substantial contribution to their overall turnover.
