RIBA has launched a new competition to find a talented design team, who will help deliver a landscaping/environmental improvements scheme for Astley Village in Chorley, Lancashire.
The competition is being organised by RIBA on behalf of Places for People, one the UK's largest property maintenance and regeneration companies. The area is one of seventy five projects nationally that are part of the Green Spaces for People Portfolio that is being supported by the Big Lottery Fund.
The competition is open to all practising architects, landscape architects, town planners and urban designers. Ideas are sought for improvements to Broadfields and Astley Village Ponds and surrounding areas. Places for People has high aspirations for a design that is creative and practical, whilst respecting the character and context of the village. The competition seeks a design team to work closely with the local community to design and deliver the project. The proposal will aim to address social inclusion, community cohesion, healthy living and community wellbeing.
The competition opens on the 12th November and the submission deadline is January 7th 2009. The selection will take the form of a two stage process, which at Stage One will involve teams submitting design ideas on a single A1 design board. Up to three teams will be short-listed and invited to attend an interview to expand on their first stage submission.
