New Design Competition to create The Renaissance Pavilion for Yorkshire

A new international open design competition has been launched to find outstandingly talented designers for the design of 'The Renaissance Pavilion', a mobile, demountable structure designed to host a range of events throughout the Yorkshire and Humber region. This competition is being run as a partnership between Yorkshire Forward, RIBA Yorkshire and the RIBA Competitions Office.

The Renaissance Pavilion will showcase and host events to celebrate the ongoing investment by Yorkshire Forward's Renaissance Programme in the region's cities, towns and rural communities and demonstrates the continuing commitment to achieve Great Places. Great Places aims to create high quality communities where people want to live, work and invest and it is at the heart of the Yorkshire regional economic strategy.

The promoters will be looking for inspiring, deliverable designs capable of providing a flexible and unique event space – allowing communities to explore futures for their area, in their area.

The competition is now open and the deadline for submission of designs is Thursday 16 October 2008. The brief can be downloaded from www.architecture.com/competitions|
