The shortlist is announced for the competition to refurbish the three publicly accessible roof terraces at the RIBA Headquarters building, 66 Portland Place, London, W1B 1AD. These outdoor spaces are used for a variety of events and the objective is to design and create simple sustainable architectural garden terraces that will enhance the Grade II* listed building designed by George Grey Wornum.

The RIBA was delighted by the response to the competition, which attracted 57 Expressions of Interest from designers based in the UK, Eire, France and the United States of America.

The Jury Panel consisted of architect members of the RIBA Premises Committee, together with RIBA Staff. The Panel selected the designers which they felt had best demonstrated their understanding of the project, how they might take the project forward and their ability to design and deliver a special roof-top experience which will compliment the 1930's building. The four designers (in alphabetical order) short-listed were as follows:
- Burd Haward Architects
- Glowacka Rennie Architects
- Dan Pearson Studio
-
Studio Weave and Millimetre

The four short-listed designers will be invited to attend an interview in early January 2009 to elaborate on their Expression of Interest material and discuss the project with Jury Panel members
