Next Wave : Shelter & Kiosk Competition – shortlisted designers chosen

Michael Tite & Tom Ebdon

ROEWUarchitecture

John Pardey Architects

Don Orike Architects

Jameson & Kerr LLP

Superfusionlab Ltd

Rayner Davies Architects Ltd

Richardson Architecture Ltd

K2 Architects

Duggan Morris Architects

Chair of the Jury Panel Niall McLaughlin said : "The competition attracted a very high number of entries and provided a really broad range of responses to the site. The shortlisted schemes managed to combine original thinking with a properly considered approach to this challenging seafront environment. We are delighted that we have a range of interesting ideas to take forward to the next stage".

The competition is being organised by the RIBA Competitions Office on behalf of Rother District Council. The new structures, with a total construction value of £220,000, comprising 4 seafront shelters and a kiosk, will be a flagship element of the Council's Next Wave Seafront Improvement Project, a wider £5 million cultural regeneration programme that has received £1 million of funding from CABE under the SeaChange Programme.

The shortlisted designers have been given until 21st October to work up their stage one ideas. Stage two will involve a web-based public consultation followed by a final judging session in mid-November.
