Moxon Architects, a young London based practice has won the competition to design a new office building, on a site close to Preston city centre.
Moxon's scheme was chosen following a two-stage process which attracted over 50 entries at the first stage. An international shortlist of six was invited to the second stage, which included : LH Architekten from Hamburg ; Piercy Conner Architects and Studio 8 Architects from London ; Maxwan Architects from Rotterdam, and Stephen Yablon Architects from New York.
Competitors were set the challenge of producing concepts for an 'exceptional piece of architecture', which would have a strong visual presence as well as providing a high quality office. The Jury Panel, which included architects Ian Simpson and Nazar Sayigh of Glas Architects, felt the Moxon scheme was a potentially unique design that offered good simple spaces, intriguing views out, and an extraordinary quality of light. The principal expression of the scheme is a building surrounded through an array of 'reeds'.
Moxon Architects will now work closely with the client to develop and deliver the scheme.
