RIBA launches exclusive career advice for aspiring architects

Top British architects and experts from the creative industries are on offer to give young aspiring architects and creative professionals their exclusive tips for career success.

Jamie Oliver's brand guru, Bryan Edmondson of communications agency SEA, entrepreneur Rob Hamilton of property company Instant, and Mark Blayney Stuart of the Chartered Institute of Marketing are amongst the experts who have provided guidance for young professionals on how to find a job, manage finances, marketing, business planning and how to sell your creative ideas. The 'RIBA Perspectives' guidance is part of a package of new tools and resources launched today exclusively and free for RIBA Associate Members (aspiring architects or people with architectural training).

The RIBA's new package of support also includes:

  • Talking Heads - A series of filmed interviews with top architects including Ken Shuttleworth, Barbara Weiss, Lee Polisano and Joanna Van Heyningen discussing the ins and outs of managing a career in architecture and the creative industries.
  • Resume - an exclusive app specifically designed for creative and architectural job-hunting and helping to strengthen that all important CV.

Speaking about RIBA Associate Membership, Stephen Hodder, RIBA Vice President of Membership, said:

'The job market for young architects and creatives remains tough and unpredictable; they are amongst the most vulnerable people within the industry. This new suite of tools developed for RIBA Associate Members responds to this challenging time; it is designed to convey essential knowledge to support the transition from an education environment to that of practice.   • RIBA Associate Members must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
    Have passed RIBA-recognised Parts 1 and 2 examinations in architecture (or an examination approved by Council as providing exemption) – or
    Been awarded an architectural qualification consisting of a minimum of five years of academic study which is listed in the European Union Directive (2005/36/EC), and be currently working towards the five years' post-qualification professional experience required for RIBA Chartered Membership.
  • RIBA Associate Membership fees start from £56 per year. To support those in hardship, concession rates start from £44 per year.
