Research and Innovation

The RIBA helps to develop and apply the research-based knowledge of RIBA members, chartered practices and schools of architecture in order to promote links between practice and academia – and to position the RIBA as a trusted research facilitator for architecture and the related built environment professions.

The key work areas within research and innovation are:

  • To assist the RIBA to convene the RIBA’s annual research symposium.

  • To appoint and oversee the work of the judging panel for the President’s Awards for Research.

  • To raise awareness among practitioners of the benefits, both intellectual and economic, of research in practice.

  • To support and promote architectural research – and a range of strategic research projects – within the RIBA, the architectural profession and architectural academia, concentrating on the primary research theme for 2014: 'Ageing and the Built Environment'. The primary research theme for 2015 will be 'Design Quality and Performance'.

Call for Evidence on Design Quality and Performance

To provide built environment professionals with easy access to the current knowledge, research and new guidance, the RIBA are calling for evidence on issues related to Design Quality and Performance.
