The British Architectural Library offers a variety of ways adult learners can enjoy and be inspired by the RIBA's collections of books, drawings, archives and photographs, whether on-site at 66 Portland Place, at home, at the Victoria and Albert Museum or around the city.


guided tours

Discover the secrets of the RIBA's headquarters at 66 Portland Place with a group guided tour of the building. Over the course of an hour you will take in the building's fascinating history, stunning 1930s Art Deco architecture and unravel curious stories with our dedicated tour guides. Pitched to your group, these tours are a perfect activity for everyone from seasoned architects and design professionals to lifelong learning groups and those with an interest in London's rich and diverse history.

If you have a little more time, why not combine a guided tour with an additional look at highlights from the British Architectural Library's world-class collections based at 66 Portland Place. The collections contain rare items from the 1400s to the present day spanning the world and covering a host of subjects, so no matter what your interest, this session will captivate.

Rates (prices include VAT):

  • Guided tour only £10 per person
  • Guided tour + collections highlights, £15 per person

Both options are available Monday - Friday 10am - 5pm (Tuesdays 10am - 7pm).

Groups of up to 20 can book a 90-minute library induction which includes a short introduction to the building, a tour of the library and a practical session looking at how the collections, catalogue and a few items from the collection


The British Architectural Library has a collection of over four million items ranging from 17th-century drawings to photography from the 19th century to today, journals from around the world, 15th-century books and intriguing architectural archives. Whatever your special interest and purpose – academic studies or leisure activity – there will be something in the collection to capture your curiosity. Bespoke workshops can be arranged to view and investigate materials from the collection.

closer look talks

Closer Look talks are devised and led by curators of the RIBA's collection and give you a free opportunity to enjoy and intimate talk on a particular theme looking at material from the collections at the Victoria and Albert Museum

These talks are free, but limited spaces so ticketed on a first come first served basis on the day. Tickets available from the main Information Desk on the day of the talk. Please meet in reception at 12.55pm.
