The ceremony

The spaces licensed at the RIBA for civil marriages and civil ceremonies offer diversity of both style and size.

The Aston Webb Room's leather-lined walls and Indian laurel wood joinery presents the ideal opportunity for more intimate ceremonies of 40. The Lutyens Room's full-height windows and RIBA portraits create a light and airy space for 70 guests, while the Jarvis Foyer and delightful RIBA Gallery provides the perfect area for 120-140 guests. For larger ceremonies our wood-panelled, tiered Jarvis Hall can seat 250. For a more unusual setting, why not consider our stunning First Floor staircase.

The celebration 

The RIBA is an elegant venue that will bring glamour and prestige to your wedding celebrations. Welcome your guests with drinks on the beautiful First Floor Landing - its high ceilings and marble pillars create a feeling of grandeur while the grand piano can provide the perfect accompaniment to your arrival. During the warmer months the fabulous terrace provides an outdoor area for drinks.

For your reception the magnificent Florence Hall - the largest and most richly decorated room in the building - provides the perfect space to delight and amaze your guests. Decorated marble and wood floors, vast floor-to-ceiling windows and carved stone window surrounds set a grand and elegant scene.

We can host seated dinner-dances with beautifully set dining tables and attentive waiting staff. Alternatively, we can offer a standing reception with cocktails, canapés and live food stations for your guests to enjoy, with dancing later in the evening. Our proposal is very flexible and adaptable to your requirements.

The First Floor Landing accommodates 150 for a drinks reception. The Florence Hall seats 200 for a dinner-dance, 250 for a dinner or 400 for a standing reception. If you wish to dance the night away after midnight, the Jarvis Foyer can be transformed into a stylish dancing area for you and your guests to enjoy (additional costs will apply).

The venue and catering teams have vast special event knowledge with a focus on excellence. Giving you a wonderful experience at the RIBA is our priority, from the moment you book your event to the moment you leave us. We are here to provide the perfect day. Our experienced team attends to every detail to ensure that your celebrations exceed your expectations. A dedicated venue and catering manager will be on hand to provide you with as much assistance as you require with planning and will also be onsite for your special day.

A beautiful Autumnal wedding...

After proposing in Cape Town, South Africa, in the summer of 2010, Cheryl and Alan finally tied the knot with a civil ceremony and reception at the RIBA. It was a beautiful sunny September day when family and friends from Malaysia and the UK came together for the celebrations. The drinks reception took place on the sweeping stairs to the sounds of the Skara string quartet as guests made their way to the RIBA Terrace to enjoy delicious champagne and canapés before dining in the Florence Hall.
