Better City, Better Life – Sustainable by Design
World Day of Architecture – 4 October 2010
In accordance with the decision taken by the U.I.A. Assembly in 1996, the 'World Day of Architecture' is celebrated on the first Monday of October each year, on the same date as the United Nations 'World Habitat Day'.
This year, the World Day of Architecture will be celebrated on 4 October.
The Council of the International Union of Architects meeting in Tokyo (Japan) on
29-31 July 2010, adopted the following theme for the 2010 World Day of
Better City, Better Life – Sustainable by Design.
This is an extension of the United Nations World Habitat Day theme for 2010 of 'Better City, Better Life' and reflects the UIA Sustainable by Design Strategy being pursued for the UIA Congress and Assembly in Tokyo in September 2011.
To celebrate the 2010 World Day of Architecture, all UIA Member Sections are invited to commemorate the theme through architectural manifestations - exhibitions, lectures, discussions and other activities– and the public presentation of local and national projects that demonstrate the architectural and urban solutions developed by architects to contribute to a better life in better cities, through their sustainable designs.
I hope that your Section will succeed in stimulating debates, exchanges and initiatives among the architects in your country, and I thank you in advance for sending all information on the celebrations held by your Section to the General Secretariat for publication in the U.I.A. Newsletter.
We are looking forward to hearing from all UIA Member Sections of their celebrations across the world.
