TAY KHENG SOON AND GOH CHONG CHIA HONORED

The Singapore Institute of Architects awarded its 2010 Gold Medal to Singapore architect
Tay Kheng Soon. Founder of Akitek Tenggara and member of the SPUR urban planning
group. Tay favours climatic and cultural conditions over imported architectural models. He
brought to light the specific questions related to planning for megacities in the tropics and
defined a highly sophisticated and modern language for tropical architectural 'Line, Edge',
weaving and shadow.
The institute also honoured UIA Treasurer and RIBA Chapter head, Goh Chong Chia with the title of honorary lifetime member of the Singapore Institute of Architects.
