Design of Place Lalla Yeddouna in Fez
The Medina - Fez
'L’Agence du Partenariat pour le progrès (APP)' together with 'l’Agence pour le
développement et la réhabilitation de la ville de Fès (ADER-Fès)' launch a project
competition in two stages, open to architects worldwide, for the urban planning of
place Lalla Yeddouna in the medina of Fez, Morocco. Organised in conformity with the
UNESCO-UIA regulations, the competition is organised under the auspices of the UIA.
This competition is part of a programme for the economic and social development of
this sector through the development of its cultural, artisan and tourist potential. Place
Lalla Yeddouna will serve in the future as a vibrant mixed-use hub for the community as
well as for visitors to the medina. The preservation of the architectural and cultural
heritage of the site, registered on the UNESCO world heritage list, is a fundamental
aspect of the competition programme.
At the end of the first stage, the jury will select about eight projects the authors of which
will be invited to participate in the second stage for which they will each receive a fee of
40 000 US$.
At the end of the second stage, the jury will award 3 prizes of the following amounts:
55 000 US$; 40 000 US$; 25 000 US$.

The jury will be composed of officials representing the Moroccan autorities and as well as
of representatives of the United States of America and of the following architects: David
Chipperfield, United Kingdom; Matthias Sauerbruch, Germany; Marc Angélil,
Switzerland-USA; Meisa Batayneh Maani, Jordan; Stefano Bianca, Switzerland; Omar
Farkhani, Morocco; Rodolfo Machado, USA-Argentina; .
Registration for the competition will take place on the competition web site. The
competition language is English. There is no registration fee.

EIC Meeting in Athens
7 - 8 October
British Expertise is the UK member of The European International Contractors (EIC), which holds two networking General Assemblies each year. The European Future Energy Forum is being held in association with Masdar and is Europe's largest exchange of knowledge on the future of energy. EFEF takes place from 19 - 21 October at ExCel London. Mission to Northern Iraq with Sir Andrew Cahn
Sir Andrew Cahn, CEO of UKTI, will be leading a major British delegation to develop new business opportunities in Northern Iraq 17 - 21 October, to coincide with the Erbil International Trade Fair 18 - 21 October. This is the first time that UKTI will have had this kind of presence in Iraq for several decades. British Expertise is working in partnership with the MEA to recruit a major business delegation, which will have a meeting programme with key Kurdish public and private sector contacts, potential private sector partners, and overseas companies eg from Turkey which are already established in the region. There will also be a series of networking events organised by the Kurdish Regional Government and the British Consulate in Erbil.

UKTI Saudi Arabia and Kuwait: Ports Seminar
A high level Ports delegation from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait will be speaking at a seminar to be held on Monday 18 October from 0900 -1400 at BIS Conference Centre, 1 Victoria Street, London SW1. Those attending will hear first hand about the major port developments taking place in two high growth markets in the Middle East. The seminar will be chaired by David Howell, Chairman of British Expertise, and will be followed by a networking lunch. Qatar: Seminar Mission on Construction, Dispute Resolution and Risk
On behalf of UKTI, we will take a Seminar mission to Qatar from 31 October - 2 November. Qatars economy is growing faster than almost any other in the world, with a forecast real GDP growth of 19.4% in 2010 as new LNG plants come on stream. Qatar has made no secret of its ambitions to be a regional leader in the modernisation of its infrastructure, including a high-profile bid for the World Cup and plans for construction of a rail network from scratch. New Event: Saudi Arabia - Healthcare Mission
On behalf of UKTI, British Expertise will be taking a healthcare mission to Riyadh and Jeddah 5 - 10 November. Saudi Arabia is one of the largest and most important markets for the UK in the Middle East and its economy continues to grow strongly. The mission will include briefings in both Riyadh and Jeddah, group site visits to high profile Saudi hospitals and two business-to-business networking receptions. Brazil Environment Mission
On behalf of UKTI we are organising a trade mission to Brazil to visit the FIMAI Trade Fair and Congress from 8 -12 November. FIMAI is the leading Brazilian and Latin American industrial environment and sustainability trade fair. Key sectors are: waste management; clean technologies; water & waste water treatment; environmental consultancy; education & training; air emissions; recycling; land remediation and carbon credit markets. Abu Dhabi and Dubai - Construction and Education Mission

There will be bespoke seminar events linked into the Building Future Education MENA conference in Abu Dhabi, and a one-day seminar in Dubai organised in conjunction with the Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority. South Korea: Construction, Infrastructure, Green and Sustainable Buildings

The South Korean Government is determined to ensure that its future development has a low climate impact. However, low carbon and green housing are in their infancy in the region and there is a lack of the essential design skills in the country.
